Transparency Report 2025

Published on

Introduction

Financial and organizational transparency is a core value of the Argot Collective. We believe the Ethereum community should not be asked to place its trust in opaque, unaccountable, or self-interested institutions. Instead, public-goods stewardship must be grounded in openness, traceability, and clear responsibility.

Argot is therefore committed to publishing detailed disclosures of our internal and external expenditures on a six-month basis. This document represents our first transparency report following the completion of our incorporation process in July 2025. During this initial period, our primary expenses have been direct contributor payments supporting the continued development of Solidity, Sourcify, hevm, Fe, ethdebug and Act.

This report is intended to provide the community with a clear and verifiable view into how resources entrusted to Argot are allocated and governed.

Admin Updates

Incorporation

Argot has completed its incorporation process. Corporate registry information is available for reference, reflecting the organization's legal structure and jurisdiction here. All relevant employment contracts and supporting infrastructure have been transitioned from EF to Argot to ensure continuity of work, clear ownership, and aligned operational responsibility. In parallel, all applicable projects have been formally migrated from the Ethereum GitHub organization (https://github.com/ethereum) to the Argot organization (https://github.com/argotorg), consolidating both governance and technical stewardship under a single entity.

New Hires

Ops (Part-Time)

Supporting back office operations, payroll.

Fundraising

Supporting donor relations, grant coordination, and long-term funding strategy.

Solidity

Strengthening the C++ implementation of the Solidity compiler through backend and optimizer features contributions, including SSA-CFG and ethdebug.

ongoing

evmone

This grant funds the work of one engineer to continue maintaining evmone. The project was previously supported by the Ethereum Foundation and is now maintained independently following the conclusion of that engagement, and it remains a critical dependency for the compiler’s test framework.

Funding

Argot is grateful to its early contributors, whose support has been essential to our formation and momentum. Every contribution truly makes a difference. Upon incorporation, we secured a three-year operational funding arrangement with the Ethereum Foundation, with a potential two-year extension pending the progress and ecosystem contribution the collective makes. While we value EF's foundational role and continued collaboration, Argot's transition into an independent organization makes diversification of funding sources critical to guaranteeing long-term sustainability and resilience.

Donors

7250 ETH
July 4th

Ethereum Foundation

This inaugural grant provides the Argot Collective with its initial operational runway and supports core infrastructure development, contributor coordination, and the long-term maintenance of critical protocol tooling.
49.9 ETH

Octant

Four Argot Collective projects were selected to participate in Octant's Epoch 8, collectively raising 49.9 ETH, with funding allocated as follows: Solidity received 22.4 ETH, Fe 9.8 ETH, Act 8.9 ETH, and hevm 8.8 ETH. Octant is playing an important role in advancing sustainable public goods funding within the Ethereum ecosystem, and we greatly value its continued contribution to this effort.

ENS

This grant was awarded by the ENS DAO Public Goods Working Group in support of Argot's work. We are deeply grateful for this early recognition and the confidence placed in our mission.

Gitcoin

Argot participated in the Gitcoin GG24 Developer Tooling & Infrastructure Quadratic Funding round on Giveth, supporting community-backed funding for open-source Ethereum tooling.

OP Retro Funding

Five of Argot's six projects received funding through the OP Retro Funding initiative. OP has been one of the strongest stewards of public goods funding, and we are sincerely grateful for this continued support. The recurring nature of this funding enabled Argot to cover all operational expenses from the moment of incorporation until we received funds from the EF grant, providing a critical buffer and operational agency at a pivotal moment. The funds break-down across projects is as follows: Solidity received 559,000 OP, Act 259 OP, Sourcify 18,000 OP, Fe 21,000 OP, and hevm 7,000 OP.
