Transparency Report 2026 (H1)

Published on

Introduction

This is Argot Collective's bi-annual transparency report, covering all spending from January 16 to July 2, 2026. As a collective committed to public-goods stewardship, we believe financial and organizational transparency is essential to accountability.

As with our previous report, the majority of expenses are contributor salaries supporting the continued development of Solidity, ethdebug, Fe (including Sonatina), Sourcify, hevm, and act.

New Hires

Solidity

The team hired a new Developer Advocate to engage with the community, solicit and triage feedback, coordinate with stakeholders on the Core Solidity standard library, and represent the project at public events.

Budget & Expenses

From January 16, 2026 through July 2, 2026 our total expenditures amounted to $2,836,025. Due to a small delay in publishing the first report, this period covers slightly less than six months.

evmone

This grant funds the work of one engineer to continue maintaining evmone. The project was previously supported by the Ethereum Foundation and is now maintained independently following the conclusion of that engagement, and it remains a critical dependency for the compiler’s test framework.

Funding

We are grateful to all public-goods stewards and donors who contributed to Argot this year. Your support allows us to maintain critical open-source infrastructure independently and under a neutral umbrella. We are also pleased to share that we have finalized the terms and governance of the original five-year funding commitment with the Ethereum Foundation. Details are outlined below.

Octant

Solidity was selected to participate in three funding rounds hosted by Octant this year.

In epoch 10, at the beginning of the year, Solidity raised 46.3 ETH in total.

Octant also piloted StreamVote, using Superfluid money streams to continuously distribute funding proportional to voters' quadratic voting distribution, where Solidity raised 2.4 ETH.

Finally, in Octant's inaugural v2 round (epoch 12), which introduced ProperQF and ETH contributions for the first time, Solidity raised 6.75 wETH.

Octant continues to be a driving force in public goods funding innovation within the Ethereum ecosystem, and Argot is grateful for its continued support.

TheDAO Fund x Giveth

Three Argot projects were selected for the inaugural TheDAO Ethereum Security QF Round on Giveth: Sourcify, act, and hevm, collectively raising 20.15 ETH and 2,972 USDC.

Funding was allocated as follows: Sourcify received 11.91 ETH & 1,067 USDC, act 1.24 ETH & 324 USDC, and hevm 7 ETH & 1,581 USDC.

TheDAO Security Fund is a newly formed initiative to allocate the yield from funds recovered from TheDAO hack towards the projects and people that strengthen Ethereum security. Argot is honored to have been part of its first round.

Ethereum Foundation

When Argot was formed, the Ethereum Foundation committed to five years of operational runway, with the first three years paid out in full last year. The terms and governance of the remaining two years have now been finalized, with the first unlock taking place in July, 2026.

This continued support provides the collective with the stability to maintain and develop core programming languages and tooling for Ethereum over the long term.

Full details about the set-up can be found in our funding announcement.
